Paris Hill Historic Preservation Foundation

The Friends of the First Baptist Church of Paris Hill and the Paris Hill Historical Society have merged, and the Paris Hill Historical Society artifacts are very nicely displayed in their new home in backroom of the Church building.

Some of the history that led to this activity is as follows:

Julie Demont, Nancy Schlanger and Rosemary Losso, who were the last active members of the Historical Society Board, requested to meet with me about a year or so ago. They suggested merging the Paris Hill Historical Society with the Friends of the Church and relocating all historic artifacts from the building on Tremont Street to the backroom of the First Baptist Church of Paris Hill.  The Friends of the Church Board and the Paris Hill Historical Society (Rosemary is the last active member of the Historical Society board) recently voted unanimously to merge the two 501 (3) (c) organizations. While we still have a lot of details to work out (merging the two 501(3)(c) filings, combining insurance coverage, updating our bylaws, etc.), I wanted the Paris Hill community members to be aware of this change. The former location of the Paris Hill Historical Society on Tremont Street is now being leased by Tim Sims who will soon be opening a new business called Mended Branches where he will sell arts, crafts and collectibles.  Our new name for the merged organization will be Paris Hill Historic Preservation Foundation. We believe that our new name more effectively supports the mission of our newly combined organization.

More specifically, our overall core mission of the merged organization will be to continue to raise funds to maintain, restore and preserve the historic building, historical artifacts and adjacent commons in the National Historic District of Paris Hill. Our mission includes hosting annual family-friendly music shows, cultural events, and community gatherings to promote community and to raise funds for our annual budget. We have an exciting summer season ahead of us which will include a comedy show with Juston McKinney on July17th, Founders Day on July 19th, Barefoot Man concert on August 22nd and Hannibal Hamlin Day on August 23rd. We will also soon announce when the new Historical Society room will be open for visitors. In addition, we hope to schedule presentations to focus on various aspects of the artifacts and Paris Hill history.

Please contact me or the board members with any questions.

Best regards,

Kevin Carleton
